1. Mr. Dancealot by Haley Torries

In "Professor Dancealot" by Michael Johnson, Mr. Dancealot was an awful teacher! He demonstrated the steps behind the desk and then got mad whenever a student got up to watch. He was teaching a dance class and did not let his students practice the moves. It saddens me that almost all of my previous teachers taught this way as well. They would give me different concepts and then expect me to piece them all together without any starting point. This video helped me see how not to teach.

2. Teaching in the 21st Century by Kaitlyn Parker
Roberts believes teaching in the 21st century is about engagement instead of entertainment. Teachers are no longer the only source of information for students, but teachers are the filter for the information. Students now have access to iPad's, computers, and smartphones where they can access Google, You-tube, or Facebook wherever and whenever they want or need. Technology gives them access to anything they need. Students can easily "Google" any question they have and within seconds get millions of responses. I feel that teachers are still needed in the classroom but they can utilize technology to excel their teaching and engagement with the students. Technology is growing and improving each and every day. As an educator technology will be used in my classroom to help me engage with my students. This will help teach them concepts I may not have been able to teach them using just a textbook and chalkboard.

3. The Networked Student by Haley Torries

"The networked student" video allows students to discover more of what technology has to offer. I enjoyed watching this video. I believe students become more engaged with this type of learning.  They also connect with other people and their ideas.

This is a diagram of the networked student.

Why does the networked student even need a teacher? The student needs a teacher as a coach whenever they feel like their research has hit a brick wall, to help them organize what they discover and keep them in the right direction. The teacher makes sure the student understands how to communicate properly with people all over the world by being kind and eager to learn. The teacher is also needed to make sure they are searching on sites that use correct information to back up their opinions.

I definitely believe a networked student needs a teacher. I think a better name for the teacher would be mentor. Mentors are there to answer any questions the student has
while helping them become more independent in the field they are studying. I look forward to mentoring children and watching their imaginations grow.

4. Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts by Paula Lu
In the video “Harness Your Students’ Digital Smarts,” by Vicki Davis, Davis shows us how technology can be good for students. If you give them something they do not know how to use, then they will figure it out. She allows the students to teach each other and work together. Students can get bored of listening to a teacher lecture. Therefore, Davis lets her students demonstrate what they have learned. She gets them involved with technology. Technology is expanding and will eventually start invading the classroom, why not put it to good use?

I like the way that she teaches her students to use technology to teach themselves. If they have questions or do not know something, she is always there to help but they also have the tools to look it up.

The Edutopia website has many tips and ways to make teaching and learning fun for the students. Showing teachers ways that can keep their students interested and wanting to learn.

5. Flipping the Classroom - 4th Grade STEM by Kabrina Harris

Flipping the classroom is a great concept that allows all students to learn at their own pace. I really believe that this way of learning could be helpful to all children and should be used in all schools. The best part of this program is that children get a chance to review the material before coming to class. Skipping the lecture allows students more time to ask questions to clear up problems that they may be having. Children can benefit from this program by being able to see the material more than once. I believe that the more time that they get to spend on a subject, the better they will become at it. This method gives students the opportunity to ask questions in class. Students can pause, rewind, and watch the video as many times as needed to effectively understand the information. This method seems to be very effective and I may even flip my classroom in the future!

If I built a school

If I were to build a school, I would make sure that all the classrooms were homey. I would make sure there were plenty of activities for the children to do to keep their minds awake while getting the exercise children need. I would make sure that the teachers allowed their students to enjoy to learn rather than looking at books all day. Most children learn in many different ways so why would a teacher only teach one way of learning a subject? I would make sure the food in the cafeteria is healthy but also delicious so the children would eat the food. I would have a program set up to have students tutor students who need extra help on subjects because I believe hearing the subject from a different perspective would help the student more. But most of all I would like the students in my school to feel safe while enjoying to learn new subjects.

 Children having fun while learning.

Who is Krissy Venosdale?

Krissy Venosdale is a Gifted Ed Teacher who teaches grade grades 3rd through the 6th grade. She is very passionate about teaching and goes above and beyond for her student. She believes students should enjoy learning rather than just giving them a bunch of information and expecting them to memorize on their own. She is very inspirational and has a great imagination on how children should be taught. I strive to encourage and teach with the love she uses every time she walks into her classroom, in my classroom. Who is Sugata Mitro? Sugata Mitro is the creator of SOLE. It is awesome how he moved all of his ideas around the world. He had an idea and made it happen by testing his hypothesis several times. I admire the way he has decided to change the way to look at teaching all by himself. What my students will learn I believe it is important for students to learn about every subject. Well rounded students understand more about life and what is going on around them. Therefore, students should learn about math, science, history, health, reading and also physical education.

What my students will be able to do

I want my students to be able to learn on their own but not be afraid to ask me for help whenever they need it. I want them to be able to figure out any problem at their grade level. I want them to be able to work together to solve problems to help them get prepared for working in the work field.

  The methods I will use

I want to try to use a couple different methods to teach each subject because every child learns differently. I will play learning games to help the children to have fun while learning. I will also have sample problems for the children to practice so they can get better.

This is a picture of children using computers.

  The tools I will use

I will make sure I have all the math tools needed for effectively learning the concepts of math. I will have markers, pencils, extra paper, etc... I will make sure I have all the needed for the topics of the subjects I am teaching.

What role my students will play

My students will learn the basic concepts from me but then explore how far those concepts go. I want them to be able to learn on their own while I coach them and make sure they stay on coarse. I also want my students to be able to work with one another to come to their conclusions.

Practice Blog Post

My name is Haley Torries. I lived in Moss Point, Mississippi, till I was in the eighth grade. Then I moved to Gautier, Mississippi, where I currently live. When I was in high I was set on being a professional musician. I enjoy playing mallet percussion instruments and will always play them to help eliminate my anxiety. After being a music major at South Alabama for five semesters, I realized I would enjoy music more as my hobby. Therefore I changed my music major to a music minor. My next major was marine biology because I took it in high school and really enjoyed it. Soon after I found out that I did not enjoy science enough to make that my career. I still enjoy to fish and make cast nets, but it did not take me long to change my major the last time. I have always enjoyed helping younger children learn so I changed my major to Elementary Education. I enjoy helping my niece learn new things and making her excited about knowing new things. I am excited that I have finally found what I want to do with the rest of my life. I want to get better at talking in front of a large groups of people. I took public speaking which helped me a little, but there is still room for improvement.

This is the first fish net I ever made. I starting making fish nets because it's a family tradition. My dad had all girls so I was happy to keep the tradition going.
